Thiem and Monfils Set Up Fourth Round Aussie Open Match

Dominic Thiem and Gael Monfils both won their third-round matches at the 2020 Australian Open on Saturday, to set up a fourth-round showdown between them.

Dominic Thiem vs Taylor Fritz

Thiem defeated American Fritz in four sets, winning 6-2, 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 in just under three hours. Thiem won 77% of points on his first serve, hit 56 winners and impressively won 82% of points when he came into the net (23/28).

Gael Monfils vs Ernests Gulbis

Monfils secured his spot in the fourth round with a straight-sets win over qualifier Gulbis, winning the match 7-6, 6-4, 6-3 in two and a half hours. Monfils won 78% of points on his first serve, hit 30 winners past the Latvian, but the main stat of the match was Monfils only hit 22 unforced errors to Gulbis’ 52.
