After Daniil Medevedev defeated former finalist Marin Cilic at Wimbledon on Saturday, there was more good news in store for him.

Harry Kane, the England striker and his Fantasy Football captain, scored twice during England’s 4-0 win over Ukraine.

Medvedev reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon for the very first time after his 6-7(3), 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 win over 2017 Wimbledon finalist Cilic.

It was the first time he had come back from two sets down at a Grand Slam.

During the post-match on-court interview, Medvedev was asked about football and whether he was following the ongoing European Championships.

“I was cheering for Russia so I didn’t care that much about England Germany,” said Medvedev. “But now in my fantasy team I think I have five England guys, or four. I have Kane as captain.”

The Russian looked genuine happy when told that Kane had scored during the match against Ukraine.

“Perfect!”

Having won the crowd over, with his choice of Fantasy League captain as much as the thrilling win over Cilic, Medvedev made a deal with the crowd. The Wimbledon men’s final will be on the same day as the Euros final next Sunday.

“Let’s make a deal, if England is there and I’m also there, I’m happy for England, ‘Let’s go England!’ I’ll be cheering for them.”

The second seed will take on Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in the next round.
