Belgian player David Goffin defeated world number one Rafael Nadal 6-4, 7-6 in two hours and twenty-three. Nadal struggled with his rhythm and timing throughout the match after the Spanish team travelled from Perth and had to try to quickly adapt to both the new court and conditions but was not able to overcome the solid play of Goffin.
The win puts the Belgium vs Spain tie at one-all going into the decisive doubles match.
