The start of the ATP Napoli Cup has been delayed due to subpar court conditions.
Qualifiers for the ATP 250 event could not be held on Sunday at the venue, Tennis Club Napoli, after players complained of poor court conditions.

“Due to problems related to the material used to build the fields (court) by a company, world leader of the industry, therefore for reasons independent from the organization, it has become necessary to postpone the tournament qualification matches scheduled for today and tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday, to allow the necessary interventions for recovery of the agility of the fields,” the tournament said in an official statement.

“For this reason the qualifying matches will not take place on the tennis club Naples courts,” it added. “The tournament will start as usual on Monday with the main scoreboard.”

The Napoli Cup was awarded a single-year licence to stage the 28-draw event from October 17 to 23.
While top seed Andrey Rublev has withdrawn from the event, Italy’s Matteo Berrettini has accepted the wildcard to compete in Napoli.

The event will feature a 28-man singles field and a 16-player doubles draw, with a total prize money of $612,000.
