Daniil Medvedev opened up on Wimbledon ban on players from Russia and Belarus saying he had accepted the situation.
Wimbledon’s decision to ban players over Russia’s aggression in Ukraine has been condemned by many, including Rafael Nadal, who called it ‘unfair.’

The decision means players like Medvedev, World No 7 Rublev and WTA stars Victoria Azarenka and Aryna Sabalenka will be unable to compete at the grasscourt major.

Over the past week, there have also been suggestions that Wimbledon could be stripped of ranking points – effectively reducing The Championships to an exhibition event.

“I tried to follow what’s happening because I don’t have any decisions to make,” said Medvedev, who will be returning to action in Geneva after spending the last six weeks recovering from a hernia operation.
“It’s right now about Wimbledon itself, the ATP, maybe the British government is involved.

“It’s a tricky situation and like every situation in life, you ask 100 players, everybody’s going to give a different opinion.”
The US Open champion , however added, “I don’t know if this decision is 100% and it’s over (for me).

“If I can play, I’m going to be happy to play in Wimbledon. I love this tournament.
“If I cannot play — well, I’m going to try to play other tournaments and prepare well for next year if I have the chance to play.”

Medvedev, who lost in the Australian Open final to Nadal, missed the beginning of the European claycourt season as he underwent a hernia surgery and had to take time off to recover.
He had briefly reached a career high of World No 1 in late February.
